Naturalism has been hijacked

WSJ guest columnist George Ball:

The new environmentalist thinking occupies that treacherous terrain between rationality and romanticism. It's highly logical, too, an all-encompassing equation where everything is equivalent to everything else -- communism at a cellular level.

The premise glows with the innocence we forsook when Adam larcenously appropriated an apple from its rightful owner, the tree.

This dangerous new unnatural naturalism sees the planet as a realm of halcyon purity. Conversely, mankind is portrayed as a cancer on the planet. Welcome to secular subhumanism.

Interesting leap from sin to secularism, eh?

Look - The asprin for this is really pretty simple:

First, Adam didn't steal the apple from the tree. He stole it from its Creator. Or rather, in his pride Adam stole innocence from mankind, not an apple from a tree.

Second, Adam didn't curse the earth. God did. And He did this for a reason, so that the cancer on the planet could be conquered through His son.

Third, sinful men are a sort of cancer on the planet. The solution is not programs or governments. The solution God has crafted is hearts redeemed by the blood of Christ.

By the way, Ball is the Burpee seed guy, who has been helping us toil the earth for generations. Given that Genesis 3:18-19 speaks directly to the consequences of Adam's sin on agriculture, that's sort of ironic, no?

And all so subtly, too. Not new, though. "Did God REALLY say...?" As Solomon said, there is nothing new under the sun.

We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. - Romans 8:22
