Richard Foster's Freedom of Simplicity is a good read for this time in the Church calendar too. First sentence: "Contemporary culture is plagued by the passion to possess." Indeed.
Lent's a great time to reconsider how heavy our lives impact the world around us spiritually (more is better) and environmentally (more lightly, of course).
